The Netherlands Proteomics Centre (NPC) is a national research initiative dedicated to advancing proteomics —the large-scale study of proteins and their functions— in the Netherlands. Established in 2003, NPC has made it its missing to develop and embed cutting-edge proteomics technologies and applications in life sciences, biotechnology, and medicine, at leading Dutch universities and research institutes. Over the years, it has enabled and supported the establishment of a large number of local proteomics facilities throughout the Netherlands, all enabling proteomics-based discovery and translational research.

Since 2013, the NPC also has contributed to and coordinated major Dutch and European research programs, including Proteins@Work, X-Omics, PRIME-XS and EPIC-XS, strengthening the Netherlands’ position in international proteomics research, and building a strong European proteomics community.

With most former national proteomics nodes now having become fully self-sufficient proteomics facilities, the NPC currently consists of a core node at Utrecht University and a satellite node at the Prinses Máxima Centrum, focused on pioneering innovative mass spectrometry-based proteomics technologies, next to serving as a national and international expertise facility. Next to working with academia, the core node collaborates extensively with instrument developers for mass spectrometry, and related proteomics technologies, and with companies involved in drug-research, vaccines and biotherapeutics.
